Surfing development program for indigenous communities and developing countries.
The Programs aim to –
– Teach and develop the technical aspects of the sport with those wanting to participate in the sport;
- Teach and develop the technical aspects of the sport with those who will assist in developing the sport by increasing the participant’s knowledge and understanding of the sport. This is for those that will act like coaches with basic information for introducing and progressing surfers at the basic entry level;
- Teach basic surf safety and surf awareness to promote a safe sporting environment and ensure new surfers have the required basic surf safety skills and awareness; - Teach basic surf rescue techniques;
- Teach basic emergency care and first aid including an introduction to CPR;
- Assist in putting together a Development Plan for the future progression of surfing in the area, region or country.
Program Beneficiaries
The Programs will directly benefit -
- Local communities and those living in the regions that want to become Surfers. It will open up a new healthy activity and pastime, it can promote a healthy lifestyle, lead to healthier communities and assist with dealing with regions suffering obesity and lack of exercise. It can also offer local people the opportunity to become involved in a new sport that could lead to potentially becoming a competitive surfer, travelling to other regions and countries for competitions and the potential for having a local person succeeding to become a professional surfer;
- Introduction of other surf sports where other appropriate equipment is available;
- Those wanting to be involved in assisting interested surfers and aspiring to become accredited Surf Instructors;
- Communities living on the coast by having an increased knowledge and understanding of the ocean and surf and the increase safety through the increased knowledge;
- Those wanting to become involved in lifesaving and aspiring to become qualified Surf Lifeguards or Surf Lifesavers;
- The development of the surfing industry and surfing as a sport through proper and formal planning to ensure continued growth and development. This could include having formal accredited training occurring in the region for example ISA Surf Instructor Training, ISA Judging training, assistance in setting up sporting bodies.
