1. Who is behind Surfing Wantoks?

Surfing Wantoks was started by surfers for surfers. We are a non profit group that aims to help develop surfing, surfing programs and surf awareness/surf safety in developing countries. We love surfing and the lifestyle and enjoyment we derive from it and are dedicated to helping spread this same enjoyment to those not fortunate to have access to the things that we have.

2. How do I know the donations will go to the intended destination?

All the boards and other donations will get loaded and unloaded by Surfing Wantoks personnel to ensure that everything gets to their designated destination. There will be plenty of photos taken along the way with large amounts added to our FaceBook and website pages so everyone can see the smiles and joy that these donations give

3. Where is Surfing Wantoks located?

Surfing Wantoks is based on the Gold Coast in Australia but we can take donations from all over Australia. We store the donations on the Gold Coast and load the containers here as well. We have also had interest from surfers in other countries showing interest in building Surfing Wantok braches in their areas

4. How do I donate if I can’t get to Currumbin?

We will be organising specific dates, locations and times for additional drop offs to make it easier for people to donate. We will also be asking for other people in the surfing industry to assist us in acting as a drop off point as well. If you cannot make it to Currumbin, one of our additional drop off dates or locations, please contact us directly and we will try and arrange and alternative

5. How do I donate if I am from interstate?

With Australian Vanlines a major part of Surfing Wantoks, donations can be arranged from most parts of Australia where AVL operate. Please contact us directly if you have donations for us but cannot get to Currumbin or one of our other Drop Off Locations

6. Will you take broken boards?

No, we do not want to be given broken or unusable boards as we will only have to throw them away ourselves. We request that all donations are in working order or needing only minimal work to have them in working order. If you are in doubt, please feel free to email us and ask us or even send us a photo

7. Is it just PNG that benefits from the Surfing Wantoks programs?

No. Up until now, all donations and programs have been directed to PNG but it has always been our aim to expand this to other countries.

8. Is it only surf boards that Surfing Wantoks would like for donations?

No. We are after a wide range of donations and are also seeking sponsorship and funding. The donations that we would love include

-          Surfboards – fibreglass, foamies, shortboards, funboards, mals, nipper boards, nipper foamies, bodyboards and fins, racing mals;

-          Other surf equipment;

-          Surf and general clothing;

-          First Aid supplies and equipment;

-          Surf Rescue Equipment like Rescue Tubes and Rescue Boards

-          Other water and sports equipment;

-          School Text Books and general reading books;

-          Anything else that is in good condition, usable and could assist in developing island nations.

9. Is there anything that I can do to assist in Surfing Wantoks?

We would love as much help from everyone in collecting donations, holding a collection and Drop Off in your area, spreading the word about what we are doing, searching for funding, applying for grants and searching for sponsorship – there are plenty of things we would love assistance with.
